Fed: Vic leaders extend sympathy following MP s death
MELBOURNE, April 24 AAP - Victorian Premier Steve Bracks and opposition leader Denis
Napthine today both extended their sympathies to the family of federal Liberal MP Peter
Nugent who died suddenly this morning.
Mr Bracks described Mr Nugent, who suffered a massive heart-attack, as "a good bloke"
and said his death was sad and unexpected.
"My thoughts go out to his family, to his friends, to his associates," Mr Bracks told reporters.
"He's a good bloke, he's someone I had association with in the past and putting politics
aside, my thoughts go out to his family."
Mr Bracks said it was not appropriate to comment on the electoral implications of Mr
Nugent's death.
Dr Napthine said Mr Nugent's death was "untimely" and "very sad".
"I've passed on the condolences of the Victorian parliamentary Liberal Party to his
wife and to his children and his stepchildren," Dr Napthine told reporters.
"Peter Nugent was a very, very hard working and very effective local member of parliament.
He will be sadly missed by his community and by the Liberal party."
