Fed: Hussein may be deterred from using WMD - army expert

A former Australian army commander says Iraqi president SADDAM HUSSEIN may be deterredfrom using weapons of mass destruction for fear of losing Arab and Muslim support.

MARK SAMPSON says that even though SADDAM's being backed into a corner with the advanceof US forces on Baghdad, he may resist using any chemical or biological weapons he stillhas.

Mr SAMPSON says the Iraqi leader's unlikely to risk losing the moral support of Arabsand Muslims around the world by proving he has weapons of mass destruction.

But he acknowledges that the fight for Baghdad isn't over yet.

He's told the Nine Network US troops may find greater opposition when they cross theTigris River.

And he says SADDAM may also want fights between his forces and US troops to occur inthe suburbs of Baghdad, where civilians can be used as cover.
