Fed: Fahey defends bonus proposal
CANBERRA, Jan 19 AAP - Finance Minister John Fahey has denied that rewarding top federal
bureaucrats with performance bonuses will politicise the public service.
The Remuneration Tribunal yesterday decided to give the government's 18 department heads
and other senior executives a rise of between 10 and 12 per cent in March, plus a similar
increase in 2000.
Besides a pay rise of almost $60,000, the bureaucrats have been offered a 15 per cent
performance bonus.
