VIC:Guards at Melbourne prison set for strike
Guards at Port Phillip Prison are set to take strike action .. abandoning daily cell
security checks that make sure each prisoner is accounted .. over a pay dispute.
A key issue for the prison officers is the figure for the final year of their proposed wage deal.
Community and Public Sector Union secretary KAREN BATT says the prison operator G4S
offered an undefined figure based on the cost and wages index.
She says the overcrowded prison is also a concern .. there's almost 800 people inside
.. which Ms BATT describes as way over original muster.
Members will return a ballot on April 27 to determine if strike action will occur and
in what form.
