Tas: Mine company fears the worst = 3
West Tamar mayor Barry Easther said the rescue effort was at a very crucial stage.
"I believe they are getting very close to the rockfall where these three men were last
seen," he told reporters in Beaconsfield.
"The community is absolutely devastated at the likely result of the rockfall in the mine.
"There is a very sombre mood around the community today and it's going to take a lot
of resilience to overcome this disaster."
Mr Easther said that right from the outset yesterday the company said they feared for
the safety of the men.
"Thirty hours have gone by, so things are looking pretty grim."
Mr Easther said the miners' families were coping as well as could be expected.
